What is TVP?

THRIVE sells a product called TVP, and I am often being asked "what is that?" TVP stands for Textured Vegetable Protein and it is an easy and affordable way to store protein in your food storage. TVP is a soy product that is high in protein and fiber and low in fat. There is no meat in TVP whatsoever.

TVP is easy to rehydrate. Just add TVP to boiling water and simmer for 5-10 minutes. TVP is a great source of protein to take camping because it is lightweight and easy to reconstitute. 1 oz. of TVP is equivalent to about 3 oz. of meat. After it is rehydrated, TVP should be treated like meat and refrigerated.

THRIVE sells a variety of TVP products, including beef, chicken, sausage, bacon, ham and ready to eat meat like sloppy joes and tacos. They all come in #10 cans and pantry cans, and some come in pouches. They are very affordable compared to the price of fresh meat.

My personal favorite is the Taco TVP. If you've ever eaten tacos at a fast food restaurant, there's a good chance you've had TVP. The flavor is great, it's easy to use, and it's affordable. In my everyday cooking, I like to use it as a meat extender and add it to my ground beef when making tacos. It makes my ground beef last longer and it adds a nice flavor to my tacos. The THRIVE Q

The THRIVE Q...this is what makes THRIVE so affordable and easy. Basically it consists of 3 steps:

1. CREATE A CUSTOM FOOD PLAN
You add basic information about your family and the Q Planner will automatically generate a plan made specifically for your family. You can customize it to add more of certain items or less of others, and then you let it do the rest of the work.

2. SET A MONTHLY BUDGET

How I got started

I guess the best place to start is to explain how I got started with THRIVE. My sister was hosting a party and she invited me to attend. I had received the invite from her, but never responded because I didn't plan on getting anything anyway. You see, my husband is right in the middle of looking for work, and now is not the time to be making unnecessary purchases. Well, she asked me on the phone if I got the invite and if I wanted to come. I told her that in all honesty, I would go, but didn't want her to plan on me buying anything.

I went to her party and was instantly intrigued. What was this food that I could eat straight of the can and it really tasted good? How could the food that we were sampling really be food storage? All the food storage I've heard about before sits on your shelves in your basement and after 20 years, you throw it away because you didn't pay enough to actually eat it. I was totally impressed! This was food that you could store AND eat. But what about the price? That's the best part of all...you could set up a monthly shipment called "the Q" and it would ship the products right to your door based on the budget that you set. It took the "how am I going to pay for this" out of the equation.

So I went home and talked to my husband about it. There were several things that I felt were necessary to get for our food storage. But as we discussed it more and more, I started realizing that I could be a consultant and possibly have my food storage paid for and make a little money on top of it.
